Morro Bay‘s multitasking QB Logan Budd had another, typical standout performance on Friday night.

The senior rushed for 163 yards and four TDs and connected on five of 10 passes for 85 yards and two more TDs to lift the top-seeded Pirates to a 42-7 victory over Northview in the opening round of the Northwest Division playoffs.

Budd also had two interceptions in a game for the third time this season, pushing him into a three-way tie for second most in the state.

I understand the playoffs aren’t the best time to talk about what a player will be doing next year, but why hasn’t this guy garnered more recruiting attention? I know he isn’t your typical pro-style QB or RB, but I think the 6-foot-2, 185-pound speedster could be a solid, Division I-level defensive back. And who knows? I’m sure he could play QB at the college level, too.

Utah, Boise State, Washington State and Wyoming have expressed some interest in Budd and I think he’ll have a scholarship offer tossed his way soon. If this guy was playing at St. Bonaventure or Oaks Christian instead of the small, traditionally anonymous program in the summer-vacation haven of Morro Bay, Budd would probably be scheduling some recruiting trips by now.

Everybody in the Northwest Division knows who Budd is -- and it’s about time the colleges did, too.
