Just when I was starting to think Paraclete DB David Green was going to slip out of the race for most interceptions in the state, he posts his second three-interception performance of the season in the Spirits’ 52-7 victory Friday over Sierra Vista in the first round of the Mid-Valley Division playoffs.

According to Maxpreps.com, Green’s 11 interceptions in 11 games pushes him into a tie for the state lead with Wheatland‘s Malcolm Webb. That’s pretty impressive, especially when you consider Green had gone the last four games without a pick.

Of course, I don’t think he’ll break the regional and state record of 17 set by Carpinteria‘s Shad Lara in 1988.

But Green isn’t just a defensive spoiler for the Spirits. The 6-foot-1 senior also leads the team in receiving. He’s made 14 catches for 351 yards (averaging a healthy, 25 yards a catch) and seven TDs.

He’s definitely one of the reasons why top-seeded Paraclete has to be considered a contender for what could be the program’s seventh divisional title.
