Memorable weekend for the Citrus Belt League.

The Redlands East Valley girls’ volleyball team won the Southern Section Division II-A championship Saturday with an exciting five-game victory over top-seeded North Torrance at Cypress College. It’s the school’s first section title in any team sport.

The Wildcats trailed,11-4, in the final game, survived a couple of match points and then won the title on consecutive aces by freshman Krista Vansant, a name you’ll be hearing for a long time. REV is seeded third in Division I for the state playoffs, which begin Tuesday.

Down the road at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, the Redlands boys’ water polo team won its first section title, defeating Murrieta Valley, 7-6, in the Division V championship game.

And the Redlands girls’ cross-country team finished sixth in Division I at the Southern Section championships at Mt. San Antonio College, earning a spot on the starting line Saturday for the state finals at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Way to go, CBL!
