Reporters fetch quotes. Hope for good ones. Pray for great ones. And loathe the cliche.

Check out this classic: ‘It was like the ball was metal and the bar was a magnet.’

That’s what El Segundo water polo coach George Harris told the Daily Breeze’s David Saunders after the Eagles had oodles of shots strike the frame of the goal.

Another gem from Harris: ‘We were married to the bar.’

Yeah, not tough to figure out that El Segundo lost, falling to Cerritos, 4-2, in the Southern Section Division VI finals on Saturday.

Still, praise El Segundo for its season-long pluck. And admire Harris for dishing out a cool quote.
