Southern Section boys’ water polo masters meet this weekend

The Southern Section will hold its second annual Masters Meet for its top boys’ water polo teams on Friday and Saturday at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Complex at Heritage Park in Irvine (next door to Irvine High).

Division I champion Newport Harbor will play in the first game against Division VI champion Cerritos at 10 a.m. Friday. Each team will play two games on Friday.

Semifinals begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with the championship game at 4:30 p.m. For a complete schedule of games and results, check here.

Redlands, the Division V champion, has declined to participate and was replaced in the pairings by Corona del Mar, a Division I quarterfinalist.

In last year’s inaugural competition, Northwood, which lost to Sea View League rival El Toro in the Division I championship game, came back to beat the Chargers in the Masters Meet final. Both teams are in this year’s tournament and could meet in a second-round game on Friday night.
