Mira Costa began its march to a fourth consecutive state title with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-9 victory over visiting San Diego Scripps Ranch in a Division II first-round match Tuesday. The top-seeded Mustangs (31-0) will host Bakersfield Centennial in a Southern California Regional semifinal on Saturday.

A victory there, coupled with a win by second-seeded Redondo (37-9) in its semifinal against visiting Bakersfield Liberty, would set up yet another meeting between the Bay League rivals in the regional final on Tuesday.

Other Southland teams advancing to Saturday semifinals are Lakewood in Division I; Bishop Montgomery, Harvard-Westlake and Laguna Beach in Division III; Mayfield and Village Christian in Division IV, and California Lutheran in Division V. For a complete schedule of games, check here.

Redondo, which beat Westview, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15, Tuesday, hasn’t had much luck against Mira Costa this season, dropping two league matches and then losing in the Southern Section Division II-A final, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22, on Saturday at Cypress College.

Last season, the Sea Hawks upset Mira Costa in the section final, only to lose in the regional final to the Mustangs, who went on to beat San Jose Mitty, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22, for their third consecutive state Division II final. Mira Costa also won the Division I title in 2004.

This year’s state championships will be held Dec. 1 at San Jose State.
