And then there was one.

The third-seeded Redlands East Valley girls’ volleyball team was swept Tuesday by visiting Carlsbad in the first round of the Southern California Regional Division I playoffs.

It was a sudden end to a magical season, leaving the Wildcats a little emotional afterwards. I can imagine. I saw a Los Osos linebacker on all fours crying like a 2-year-old after his team lost on a last-second field goal to Chaparral last week in an Inland Division first-round game.

Bermuda Dunes Desert Christian, La Quinta and Calvary Murrieta also lost lower-division first-round matches, leaving Wildomar Cal Lutheran to carry the region’s volleyball torch.

The third-seeded C-Hawks swept Borrego Springs in a first-round match, and will play at second-seeded Visalia Central Valley Christian in a Division V semifinal Saturday night.
