Fairfax basketball is ranked No. 1 in state

Fairfax has received the No. 1 ranking in the state preseason boys’ basketball ratings by CalHiSports.com. The Lions, led by Artesia transfer Renardo Sidney, left, and guard Chris Solomon, open their season Tuesday in the Redondo tournament against Reseda.

San Jose Archbishop Mitty, featuring 6-foot-9 UCLA-bound Drew Gordon, is ranked No. 2.

Taft, with five returning starters, gets the No. 3 position, followed by No. 4 Dominguez and No. 5 Mater Dei.

Campbell Hall is No. 7, Compton No. 8., Westchester No. 9 and Harvard-Westlake No. 11. Santa Margarita is ranked at No. 13, followed by Gahr at No. 15 and Riverside King No. 16.
