When Mike Herrington told me at the beginning of the season Brian Felt would be Hart‘s top receiver, I had my doubts. After all, Felt didn’t make a single catch as a junior last year.

However, heading into tonight’s Northern Division quarterfinal with Pac-7 League co-champion Paso Robles, Felt is tied with RB Delano Howell in team receptions (29) and leads the Indians with 547 receiving yards and seven TDs. That’s pretty impressive, especially when you consider all the questions surrounding Hart’s passing game back in August.

With talented WRs Brandon Arndt and Michael Vairo gone to graduation, there was a lot of pressure on Felt to emerge as the key receiver in the B.R. Holbrook-orchestrated passing game. He has met that challenge, and, along with fellow WRs Spencer Souza and Demitri Diamond, has formed one of the most feared passing games in the Northern Division.

I guess that’s one of the reasons I picked Hart to win tonight and go on to take the program’s eighth divisional title in two weeks.
