Orange Lutheran will continue its quest for a second consecutive Pac-5 Division championship after a 28-16 victory over host Edison in a quarterfinal playoff game at Orange Coast College.

This was a rematch of last year’s title game, which the Lancers won, 30-20.

Four different players scored for Lutheran (10-1), including Ricky Pemasa, pictured in an earlier game, who carried 14 times for 88 yards. He also had a big night on defense. When he sacked Nick Crissman on Edison’s final offensive play, it gave him three on the night. Lutheran sacked Crissman five times. Still, the UCLA-bound QB passed for 250 yards and two touchdowns.

The big blow tonight was Exavier Edwards’ 98-yard kickoff return to open the game. Take away that play and Edison played the Lancers pretty evenly, though it might not have been so close without a couple of turnovers that Edison converted into nine points.

‘You can’t give them points,’ said Dave White, whose Edison team finished 8-4. ‘They’re good enough as it is.’

The third-seeded Lancers will play top-seeded Long Beach Poly (11-1) in a Pac-5 semifinal doubleheader next Friday at the Home Depot Center in Carson.
