Colton advanced to its first Southern Section semifinal in 25 years, according to Coach Harold Strauss, knocking off visiting Rancho Verde, 39-22, in a Central Division quarterfinal.

Picking the star of this game was easy. Travell Washington scored six touchdowns, four rushing, one on an 88-yard reception and the other on a 95-yard fumble return, which was one of three red-zone turnovers for the Mustangs.

I asked a couple Colton coaches if six touchdowns was a school record, but they thought Alan Bradford and/or Shareece Wright may have had seven a couple years ago.

Anyway, it was announced that Colton will play at Canyon Springs in the semifinals. That seems like a nice break because Rancho Verde beat Canyon Springs in Inland Valley League play.

So long from Colton. I’ll be blogging from the state cross-country finals in Fresno in about 10 hours.
