For Harvard-Westlake senior Cathryn Quinn, having the opportunity to play for a state divisional title is something she’s been dreaming about since her sister won a state title.

Cathryn’s older sister, Kristin, was part of Harvard-Westlake’s 2001 state-championship winning team, and, truth be told, the Princeton-bound senior has always been a little envious of her sister’s accomplishment. Well, thanks to the top-seeded Wolverines’ 25-15, 25-15, 25-23 triumph over second-seeded Laguna Beach in the Southern California Regional Division III final Tuesday night, Quinn’s dream is a reality.

‘Getting the chance to play [in the state divisional title] is something I’ve been wishing for since before I was in high school,’ Quinn said. ‘I’m ecstatic that we have a chance to play for a championship, and it’s something we’ve all been working at for years.’

Quinn certainly did her part on Tuesday night to make the Wolverines’ dream a reality. She recorded 13 kills and had five blocks as the Wolverines survived a desperate Laguna Beach squad in the final game to get the sweep. Teammate Megan Norton had a match-high 16 kills.

We’ll see if she can keep up the heroics on Saturday when Harvard-Westlake attempts to capture the program’s fourth state title in a 2 p.m. match against San Francisco Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep at San Jose State.
