Each year, right around this time, I get flooded with e-mails from prep hoops guru Dinos Trigonis, which typically signals the beginning of another basketball season. And sure enough, I received an intriguing press release this afternoon, announcing the match-ups for the 2008 Pangos Dream Classic on Jan. 19 at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion.

Trust me, there’s no shortage of talent with the star-studded lineup Trigonis has assembled this time around. UCLA-bound Jrue Holiday and Campbell Hall headline the event, taking on highly-touted junior Derrick Favors and South Atlanta in the marquee game of the evening. In the undercard, so to speak, DeMar DeRozan, a USC commit, and Compton will face Compton Dominguez and its talented underclassman, Jordan Hamilton.

The showcase, in its 14th year, has seen its share of high-profile players, and I’ve made the trip down to Westwood a couple of times to see the likes of LeBron James and Dwight Howard play before they moved on to the NBA. This is an event that rarely disappoints. Those e-mails from Trigonis rarely disappoint either.
