I’ve been speaking to Todd Therrien, the football coach at St. Bonaventure, on a weekly basis for a majority of the season and our conversations typically begin, and end, with Darrell Scott. I decided to change things up Tuesday and asked about Vaughn Dotsy. Boy, was that a mistake. I couldn’t get in a word edge-wise for the next 10 minutes.

Therrien gushed about the senior offensive lineman, and that’s somewhat understandable. At 6-foot-5 and 350-plus pounds, there’s plenty to talk about. Dotsy bench-presses 455 pounds, squats 515, has a 22-inch vertical jump and runs the 40-yard dash in 5.59 seconds. Remember, we’re talking about a big kid here. A big, agile kid, one who’s bound to cause problems for Saugus in Saturday’s Northern Division playoff semifinal.

‘Vaughn is special. He’s unique, like no other athlete I’ve ever been around,’’ Therrien said. Guess that explains why Scott, one of the nation’s most sought-after recruits, has made running the ball look so easy at times this year. Shoot, I’d like to think I could pick up 100 yards or so on the ground if Dotsy was paving the way and throwing pancake blocks downfield.

According to Scout.com, Dotsy was supposed to go on his first official visit, to LSU, over the weekend. However, he didn’t end up making the trip. The Tigers, Arizona, Michigan and Nebraska have offered scholarships and Cal, UCLA and USC continue to express interest. Apparently, Therrien isn’t the only one talking about, or talking to, Dotsy these days.
