Carson not thinking like an underdog

They’ve won 10 straight games. They went undefeated in what is considered the toughest league in the City Section.

But that won’t keep second-seeded Carson (11-2) from being a decided underdog against defending champion and top-seeded Birmingham (12-1) in the City title game Friday night at the Coliseum. It’s understandable. After vanquishing Crenshaw, 42-6, in a semifinal game last night, the Patriots have given up only 45 points to the nine City teams they have faced this season. In addition, Birmingham has won 12 straight games

Carson Coach Michael Christensen, who kiddingly calls Birmingham ‘the New England Patriots,’ said the Colts are embracing the challenge.

‘That’s how it should be,’ Christensen said. ‘They are obviously a great team. We’ll prepare as we always do. At this time of the year, you don’t re-invent the wheel. We’ll try and match up, put up as much resistance as we can. But in a one-game [playoff], anything can happen.’
