Final say on St. Bonaventure-Saugus

Life is pretty good right now for St. Bonaventure RB Darrell Scott. He’s rated as the top high school running back in the nation by both Rivals.com and Scout.com and he has a plethora of major universities vying for his services. He also became just the third player in Ventura County history to rush for more than 7,000 yards following his 246-yard, four-TD performance in a 55-36 Northern Division semifinal victory over Saugus on Saturday.
But there’s still one thing the 6-foot-1 running menace wants to earn -- and that’s some state bowl bling.
‘I need to get a ring -- that’s the whole interview right there -- I just want a ring,’ said Scott about his desire to win a Division III state bowl game this season. ‘I know we still have to play Hart and they’re going to be really good, but I came here to win a state title and that’s what we want.’
Talk about winning a state divisional title is still something of a taboo subject for most of the coaches and players on St. Bonny [obviously, Scott is not in that group].
The Seraphs still have to beat a very talented Hart squad next week for the divisional title and there’s still no 100% guarantee the state bowl commissioners will pick them as the Southern California representative. Although it would be drop-dead shocking if they didn’t get in. And then they still have to beat whichever team is chosen to represent Northern California, too [likely Santa Rosa Cardinal Newman or Modesto Central Catholic].
However, the Seraphs scored on every possession and had 542 total offensive yards against a strong program that’s developed over on Centurion Way this season, proving once and for all they are one of the best in the state. And the way the Seraphs dismantled a Saugus team that lost by just a last-minute field goal to Hart less than a month ago says a lot about how things might turn out next week.
