When I see that a Southern California city is listed as one of the nation’s top 10 ‘Best Retirement Bargains’’ of 2007, according to U.S. News & World Report, the last thought on my mind is, ‘That’s where I want my kids to play high school football!’’

I can’t believe that’s not everyone’s thought process.

At Joshua Springs High, however, the Lightning apparently found just enough grandkids to defeat visiting Faith Baptist, 36-32, in the Division I 8-man championship game Friday night, giving the program its first section title in three tries.

Word is, they even closed the bingo parlors that night.
