If Carson defeats Birmingham in the City Championship Division football game Friday night in the Coliseum, it will be considered an upset -- everywhere but at Carson High.

The Colts (10-2) respect the Patriot’s (12-1) motivation to win their fourth title in six years and, hopefully, be chosen as the south’s representative for the state Division I championship bowl game next week. But Carson Coach Michael Christensen said his team has its own mission.

‘All season we have talked about re-establishing the sense of pride in our football program,’ said Christensen, noting Carson has won 11 football titles, the last one in 2003.

‘We feel we have a special case of tradition ... and I think we found ourselves in the Dorsey [semifinal] game.’
