Bulldogs run out the clock to beat University

With five seconds left and the ball on its own 20, Garfield quarterback Patrick Vargas took the snap and ran backward toward the end zone to take a safety, and in the process, ran out the clock to give the Bulldogs a 28-23 victory over University in the City Invitational championship game at the Coliseum.
