After Monday’s Southern Section luncheon for all the division title contenders, I asked St. Margaret’s Hunter Steffien if their game against Brentwood for the Northeast championship was going to be another blowout for the Tartans.

Steffien talked about how dangerous Brentwood was on offense and how this was going to be the Tartans’ toughest opponent.

I didn’t buy it then, and I don’t think St. Margaret’s coaches are selling the same line tonight.

They had their team go for a first down on fourth down at their own 32-yard line in the first quarter. That doesn’t show much awe of your opponent.

The Tartans failed to covert, however, and the Eagles marched to inside St. Margarets’ 10.

Brentwood twice went for it with fourth-and-goal plays but was stopped each time. Perhaps the Eagles should have attempted a field goal, if, by any chance, they thought the game may be close.

St. Margaret’s just scored again to go up 16-0 with 1:18 left in the first half here at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

It might, indeed, be the undefeated Tartans toughest game, but it still won’t be close.
