While it hasn’t quite proven to be in the running for a postseason berth, the first-year soccer program over at Eastside pulled off something unique on Tuesday. Both its boys’ and girls’ teams scored 11-0 victories over Desert for what I thought was a good enough excuse to get them up on this blog.

Raul Hernandez had two goals and a couple assists and Miguel Gomez and Pablo Nunez each scored twice, too. On the girls side, freshmen Kristal Campos and Jasmin Rodriguez each netted four goals and another freshman, Janet Hernandez, had two.

Now judging by the girls’ coach’s comments in the AV Press, I know this sort of blowout doesn’t happen every game. Although, coach, there have been a lot of UFO sightings out in those parts. However, the more likely scenario is both these teams are playing like freshmen and sophomore players typically do -- inconsistently. And they’ll definitely do better this season because they’ll be making the Golden League plunge.

Plus, I’ll be honest -- unless we discover members of the Lions were at some point really abducted by aliens, I’m not sure how many more times they’re going to make this blog this winter.

And in case you don’t believe in all of those alien and UFO sightings, here’s some conclusive, no-doubt-about-it evidence courtesy of YouTube. From the looks of it, I believe this footage was shot somewhere just north of Avenue H.
