Here’s a couple more standouts from last weekend’s wrestling action:

-- Scott and Kyle Chene, Irvine: Scott, a senior at 135 pounds, took first place at his team’s Andrew Pena Classic with four pins in 8:19 and was named the lower-weight MVP. His efforts also helped the Vaqueros varsity squad win the team championship.

His brother, Kyle, a junior, was wrestling for Irvine’s ‘B’ squad but defeated teammate Daniel Schweitzer from the ‘A’ squad, 7-2, in the 130-pound finals. Irvine’s ‘B’ squad finished 15th out of 19 teams.

-- Vinny Maraj, Yucca Valley: Pinned all five of his opponents at the Edison Bash at the Beach to take first place at 152 pounds and earn the tournament’s upper-weight MVP honors. Three of his matches lasted less than one period and two of those were over in less than 30 seconds.

-- Jake Evans, Mojave: Was one of four individual champions for the first-place Mustangs at the Bishop Amat Classic. He earned middle-weight MVP honors after pinning all four of his opponents in the 135-pound weight class.

-- Roger Gimenez and Tad Delk, Mira Costa: Each won an individual title -- Gimenez at 152 and Delk at 215 -- to help the Mustangs edge San Fernando in team points, 184-179, for first place at the Lancaster Eagle Invitational.
