About the same time the Corona Centennial football team was playing Concord De La Salle in the state Division I bowl game Saturday night, the Centennial boys’ basketbal team was facing an even stiffer test against Etiwanda in the final of the Upland tournament.

Both teams entered the game undefeated, but it was Etiwanda that emerged with its perfect record intact, defeating the Huskies, 70-59.

The Eagles (10-0) are young, big and might have one of the deepest teams in the Inland Empire.

Jordan Finn averages a team-high 11.3 points, but five others average more than seven. Etiwanda may have found another contributor in junior Tim Pendergraph, who came off the bench and scored a season-high 10 points against Centennial (10-1). Five of the top seven scorers for the Eagles are juniors.

Pendergraph is the younger brother of Arizona State starting forward Jeff Pendergraph, a 6-9 junior who was a late bloomer at Etiwanda while playing alongside UCLA point guard Darren Collison.

Tim Pendergraph is only 6-1, so it’ll be interesting to see if he has the same late growth spurt as his brother.
