What do Matt Barkley, Dayne Crist and Matt Scott have in common?

Well, besides being awesome quarterbacks, the Southern Californians has been named among seven finalists for the inaugural Joe Montana Quarterback of the Year Award. The honor will go out to the ‘nation’s best high school quarterback’ and the QB will be chosen by ‘ol No. 16 himself and Bartolo Sports University President, Steve Clarkson.

The winner will be announced sometime during the first half of the Outback Bowl between Tennessee and Wisconsin on Jan. 1. Finally, a reason to watch a bowl named after a pseudo-Australian steakhouse.

I’m not sure who has the upper hand in winning this award, but Barkley was already named the Gatorade National Player of the Year -- and that could help or hurt his cause. Still, the Mater Dei QB passed for 3,560 yards and 35 TDs this season.

Crist passed for 2,178 yards and rushed for 454 yards for Notre Dame. Scott played a huge part in pushing Corona Centennial to the State Division I bowl game, passing for 2,479 yards and 19 TDs. He also rushed for 1,099 yards and 13 TDs.
