Each and every time I think Jacob Ranger is going to come back down to earth from his torrid shooting streak, the senior from Carpinteria proves me wrong. I look up a box score, he fills up the stat line. I check out MaxPreps.com to see who the top scorers in the state are, he is up towards the top. Some things never change.

Wednesday was a great example. Ranger scored 35 points, and his teammates needed everyone one of them in a 63-62 victory over Channel Islands in a quarterfinal game of the Jim Bashore Holiday Cage Classic, hosted by Carpinteria. With the victory, the Warriors advance to the semifinals tonight against Maranatha. The finals are Friday at 6 p.m.

As it turns out, I was not the only one noticing the four-year starter’s uncanny scoring ability. NCAA Division I scouts are aware of his exploits too. Ranger received recruiting interest from several Big West and West Coast Conference programs before committing to UC Davis in September. Give credit where credit is due, Ranger is a scorer.... a flat-out scorer.
