Today we ran on Varsity Times my story on the Canoga Park’s boys’ soccer team, a program that’s lost only once in the last two seasons (and only four times in the last four seasons).

At the end of the story, I mention three schools (San Fernando, Birmingham and Sylmar) that should battle the Hunters for the City championship. One school that also deserves to be in the conversation is North Hollywood, which plays in the Sunset Six League with Canoga. The Huskies are off to a 3-4-1 start, including a 4-2 victory over Sylmar in the Burroughs tournament.

The Hunters and the Huskies will meet in a league opener on Jan. 8.

Also, Hunters Coach Jake Gwin was recently named NCSAA Far West regional (Division II) coach of the year. Gwin got his 100th career win when Canoga Park beat Monroe, 2-1, on Dec. 5. Just before that, the NCSAA named former Canoga Park player Rafael Garcia to its national All-American team.

Both coach and player will be honored at the NCSAA annual convention in Baltimore in the middle of January.
