Former St. Bonaventure starting QB Tony Macarena is transferring to Oaks Christian and there’s a good chance he could be at the Westlake Village campus when classes resume on Jan. 7.

‘It is my understanding that he has already applied and has been accepted and that he’ll be here when school starts up,’ Oaks Christian Coach Bill Redell said. ‘He actually contacted us a couple months ago about transfering and we contacted (St. Bonaventure) to make it clear we weren’t trying to recruit the kid.’

Macarena started at QB for Division III state bowl champion St. Bonaventure for about 1 1/2 seasons until he was replaced by senior Casey Serna following the Seraphs’ 25-9 loss to Crespi on Sept. 28.

There’s a chance Macarena could start for Oaks Christian in 2008 since starting QB Chris Potter and backup Isaiah Kempf will graduate this spring. However, junior DB Anthony Vitto and freshman Jake Geringer (played QB on j.v. team) are also candidates for the five-time divisional champion Lions.

This season, Macarena passed for 733 yards and five TDs in limited action. He passed for 1,412 yards and 12 TDs as a sophomore.
