Pioneers are lost, but only for the time being

Look at that 2-10 record. Look how all 10 losses have been by at least 10 points. Look at the freefall of Artesia boys’ basketball.

Yeah, just last spring, the Pioneers were dynamic and dynastic, wrapping up their second consecutiive CIF state title and sixth overall. Now, the stars are gone, guys like James Harden (Arizona State) and Renardo Sidney (Fairfax), and the losses are ubiquitous.

There’s also one more thing to look at: how the roster only has two seniors. And one thing to remember: This is Artesia, a place of great basketball programs and where another one will come together soon.

The Pioneers host Norwalk (8-5) on Jan. 4.
