It looks as if the Damien boys’ soccer team has picked itself up off the floor, dusted off and is back on track. But are the Spartans all the way back?

Well, they beat Canoga Park, 1-0, in the California Cup semifinals at Irvine Valley College on Friday. Without a doubt it’s their biggest victory of the season.

Damien got off to a very un-Damien like 1-6 start. Coach Juan Fresquez said, ‘Normally we are 5-0, 6-0, 10-0, 12-0, 15-0, but this year we’ve had our problems. Slowly we’re coming back and to beat a team [Canoga Park] that good, it’s got to be a confidence-builder.’

Fresquez hopes his players’ new-found momentum keeps them going against Santa Margarita in the tournament title match at 9 a.m. Saturday at Irvine Valley College.
