Four members of the Beverly Hills boys’ basketball program, including two of the team’s top players, began serving four-game suspensions Friday for violating team policies last week, according to Coach Luis Turcios.

Leading scorer Julian Wheeler and point guard Percy Miller Jr., who combine to average 38.5 points a game, along with Greg Townsend and Justin Cooper were reprimanded for missing several games at the Redondo tournament.

‘Rules are rules, and my players, whether they are popular or not, know that if they miss a game, there are consequences,’ Turcios said. “There were a couple of parents that thought the punishment was a little too tough, but that’s just the way I do things. We’re all on the same page now. Everyone understands my decision.’

Wheeler, Miller Jr., Townsend and Cooper will miss a nonleague game against Saugus and a showdown with Colony on Saturday at the Johnnie Cochran Classic. Beyond that, the players will miss two Ocean League games before they are eligible to return on Jan.16 against Santa Monica.
