At least somebody agrees with me

I love feeling vindicated.

When we selected our all-star football team a couple weeks ago, I was adamant that Redlands East Valley running back Chris Polk had a better season than Corona Centennial running back Ryan Bass. In fact, I didn’t even think Bass was the most dangerous offensive weapon on his team.

Apparently the Press-Enterprise agreed because the paper’s sportswriters chose Centennial quarterback Matt Scott as its Riverside County player of the year. When you can run and throw the ball as well as Scott did last season, he deserves that honor.

By the way, Polk was selected the paper’s San Bernardino Area player of the year. Another wise choice.

One other thing. I see we’ve been getting grief on the calhisports.com message board for selecting Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley our player of the year, instead of Birmingham running back Milton Knox, and selecting Orange Lutheran tight end/defensive end Blake Ayles our lineman of the year, instead of Long Beach Poly lineman Jurrell Casey.

Let me be the first to say, you’re all 100% correct. I put Knox as player of the year and Casey as my lineman of the year on my ballot, but had to save my energy for the Bass/Polk debate.

Anyway, I’m probably sounding like Tyra Banks the way I’m bragging about myself, but I just wanted to put that out there ... for the record.
