I failed to mention another unbeaten boys’ basketball team that’s on my radar, even if Cathedral City is just a blip right now.

The Lions are off to a 15-0 start heading into their Desert Valley League opener tonight against visiting Indio. According to this item in the Press-Enterprise, some believe the Lions are coming off a watered-down nonleague schedule.

South Bay Lutheran and Brawley aren’t exactly Mater Dei or Etiwanda, but I was impressed with Cathedral City’s most recent win, an 83-61 victory over Miller in the final of the Desert Heat Challenge at Cathedral City on Dec. 28.

Miller is a solid team, and it hammered an even better team, Capistrano Valley, in its semifinal.

There’s a good chance the Lions go unbeaten in DVL play as well. It will be interesting to see where they are seeded in Division III-A come playoff time. I know they just missed my top 25.
