Oxnard girls’ basketball coach Kenny Plummer was fired by the school this week under what principal James Edwards described to the Ventura County Star as a ‘personnel matter.’

It seems a little weird that the school would get rid of a coach who led the team to a 10-4 start coming off last year’s Pacific View League-championship season. So, I put in a phone call to Plummer this afternoon to see if I could get his side of the story, but I haven’t heard back from him.

According to the Star, assistant coaches Melvin Nunnery and Ray Capella will be running the show for the rest of the season. Oxnard opened up league play on Tuesday without Plummer, beating Camarillo, 50-31.
