With victories in 17 of 19 games this season, it appeared as if the Windward boys’ basketball team entered Wednesday’s showdown against Campbell Hall with the resume to challenge the Vikings, ranked No.5 by The Times. But when all was said and done, the Wildcats ended up looking far better on paper than they did on the court.

Jrue Holiday scored 17 of his 34 points in the third quarter of an 82-60 victory for the visiting Vikings, who extended their Olympic League winning streak to 48 games. Windward need not worry about Campbell Hall taking any added satisfaction in humbling yet another opponent -- lopsided wins are something that simply comes with the territory nowadays.

‘You know what I heard... Some of their guys were talking quite a bit heading into this game, though I’m not privy to everything that was said,’’ Vikings Coach Terry Kelly said via cell phone after the game. ‘We didn’t need to get up for this game. But if we did, that kind of talk would’ve been enough to inspire us. For Windward, it might have been a big game. But for us, it was just another opponent with a different color jersey standing in our way.’’

Next up: long-time rival Montclair Prep on Friday, followed by a break from league play Saturday against South Atlanta in the Pangos Dream Classic. In fact, the Hornets should not be overlooked, considering they’re MaxPreps.com‘s top-ranked team in Georgia. Then again, Windward probably thought it posed a legitimate threat to Campbell Hall too. Apparently not.
