Can Millikan make another No. 1 squad sick?

Just got off the phone with Lorene Morgan, the coach of the Millikan girls’ basketball team. She coughed a couple times, cleared her throat, then said: ‘Chest cold.’ Morgan has a bit of a bug while her Rams have a chance tonight to make another No. 1-ranked squad absolutely sick, the Miller Rebels (15-1).

The once-unranked Rams derailed top-ranked Long Beach Poly earlier this month and rocketed up to No. 5 in The Times’ rankings. So what’s the plan tonight against Miller, which has won 13 consecutive games? ‘The best thing is just to keep it simple,’ Morgan said, ‘and to focus on the game.’
