Congratulations to Jake Meredith of Temecula Valley, who rallied from a 7-1 deficit after the first period to pin Ian Daube of Poway in the 171-pound final Saturday night at the Five Counties Invitational at Fountain Valley High.

Meredith, seventh in the state at that weight last season, helped the Golden Bears finish fourth in the team standings, a solid result considering the caliber of this tournament.

Eduardo Marquez also reached the championship round for Temecula Valley but lost to Dominic Galas of Modesto Central Catholic in the 275-pound final. Galas is an Oregon State-bound lineman in football.

Poway won the team title, followed by Central Catholic and Clovis West.

Now, it’s on to the grueling post-season.
