Crespi and Servite have agreed to play a nonleague football game in Week 2 of the 2008 season at Crespi, allowing former Celt Coach Troy Thomas, pictured, to get another crack at his old school. Crespi defeated the Friars, 13-10, in December’s Pac-5 semifinals.

Crespi is embarking on another difficult schedule, including a Week 1 game against City Section champion Birmingham at home. The schools didn’t want to play again, but both had trouble finding opponents. Last season’s game proved crucial in determining the state Division I bowl representative, as Crespi beat Birmingham but later lost to Corona Centennial.

Crespi also travels to Utah for a Zero Week game against Northridge, Utah, and faces St. Bonaventure and Saugus, favored to win the Channel and Foothill League titles, respectively.

The good news for Crespi is that quarterback Bryan Bennett returns, and he received lots of experience as a sophomore.
