Some soccer aficionados may believe the Trinity League match between Santa Margarita and host Servite at 3:15 p.m. Friday may have lost some of its appeal, thanks to Wednesday’s results.

That’s when Servite lost to Mater Dei, 1-0, and Santa Margarita clobbered St. John Bosco, 7-0. That’s the same St. John Bosco squad that defeated Servite, 1-0, last Friday.

However, the match still has the potential to be the one of the year. It’s sure to have intensity, drama, talent and, probably, rain. Including underclassmen, there could be as many as 20 future college players on the same field. How many high school games can feature that? Not many.

Also in play is the fact that one one team is looking to avoid a three-game losing streak while the other is riding a 15-game unbeaten streak.

If you’re planning on attending the match, arrive early. Servite Coach Mike Lussier said a crowd of more than 1,000 is expected.
