Walnut Coach Lani Ruh must be wondering what more her team can possibly do to be ranked.

The Mustangs routed West Covina, 20-3, on Friday and improved to 19-0, yet they’re still getting no love from the Southern Section coaches. Walnut was not included in the Division III top 10 poll.

Rankings aside, the Mustangs’ first priority is to win the program’s first league title, and Ruh’s team took a big step towards that goal by knocking off five-time Miramonte League champion Bonita, 10-9, last week in a battle for first place. Walnut has scored close to 200 goals already, 77 of those by senior Megan Morales, the school’s all-time scoring leader.

Speaking of scoring, Friday’s game ball goes to ... Saranna Soroka of Chadwick.

The junior two-meter player scored nine goals -- that’s right, nine -- and added six steals in the Dolphins’ 17-2 Prep League victory over host Flintridge Prep.
