Thanks to being a step ahead of everyone else in the Pacific View League, the Oxnard boys’ basketball team claimed at least a share of the league title Friday night with a 51-48 victory over Pacifica.

Once again, Derek Shutt led the way, tallying 20 points and 13 rebounds, and the Yellowjackets picked up their 12th consecutive victory over the Tritons. Still, I was impressed with how Moy Barrera and Pacifica didn’t just wilt away in this one. But Oxnard better stay on its toes this Wednesday when it plays a Channel Islands squad looking to stay in the race for a playoff berth.
