How hungry are these Van Nuys Wolves?

A peek at the Van Nuys boys’ basketball roster shows one freshman, one sophomore, six juniors and six seniors. That suggests a team built to win now.

But the Wolves have not had their full roster available because brothers Mat and Willie Hankins and Victor Rudd, all summer transfers from Sylmar, had been declared ineligible by the City Section. Their appeals to the CIF state office were recently approved.

As Van Nuys (10-15, 5-2) takes the floor tonight/Friday against visiting Grant (11-12, 4-3) for a Sunset Six League game, the question hovers over the Wolves like a smoggy summer day in the Valley:

With the regular season ending next week, do these Wolves have enough time to develop the team chemistry necessary for them to be a factor in the playoffs? Or does this go down as one of the great what-if seasons in school history?
