Nike Extravaganza will begin evening session with a bang

The boys’ basketball game that’s most attractive Saturday at the Nike Extravaganza isn’t Fairfax vs. St. Patrick’s (N.J.) in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams, or Westchester against Concord De La Salle in a classic face off between NorCal and SoCal.

Mater Dei vs. Chicago Farragut. Puuuleeaaase. If the Monarchs are attempting to go undefeated this season, the guy who put together their nonleague schedule deserves a raise.

Nope, the best game will be Dominguez vs. Santa Margarita at 4:30 p.m., the first of the evening session.

I have Dominguez No. 4 in the The Times’ latest ranking of Southland teams and Santa Margarita No. 6. USA Today has Santa Margarita No. 3 in the West Region and the Dons No. 7, though that was before the Eagles suffered their latest loss to top-ranked Mater Dei.

I’d like to say we have a little better pulse on the competition out here, so I think Dominguez will squeak out a victory.
