Dominguez coach: Role players enjoying ‘whale of season’

No glamour gigs for them. No glitz. No gaudy stats.

‘Sure, they might not be doing the interviews with you guys after the game,’ said Russell Otis, the coach of Dominguez boys’ basketball. ‘But they’re having a whale of a season.’

Otis was talking about guys like Dominick LaCoste, Myron Green and Robert Domingo -- yeah, the unselfish ones -- who may chip in buckets here and there but mainly set up the star of the Dons’ solar system: Jordan Hamilton.

‘Their jobs aren’t as glamorous,’ Otis said, ‘but they deserve a lot of the credit.’

Credit, indeed. Especially since the No. 3-ranked Dons (20-2) have lost to only one team this season, No. 2-ranked Taft, which beat them twice.

Dominguez knocked off No. 4 Santa Margarita, 59-55, Saturday afternoon as part of the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei High.
