Chatsworth should wrap up the West Valley League championship when it visits El Camino Real on Wednesday. But that won’t make Friday’s season finale against Taft at home meaningless for the Chancellors.

Coach Michelle Chevalier wants Chatsworth (19-5, 8-0) to finish undefeated in league play. She also wants the Chancellors to keep playing with the defensive intensity they showed in Friday’s 65-28 victory over visiting Granada Hills.

‘We’re already in playoff mode,’ Chevalier said. ‘The kids have picked it up a notch on defense. That’s the mentality you want.’

Chevalier expects Narbonne to receive the top seed for the City playoffs if the Gauchos finish their Marine League season unbeaten. She said she has no problem with that.

‘I prefer being the underdog,’ she said. ‘I think with the history Narbonne has, they will get the No. 1 spot. I can argue we should be the top seed, but I am totally OK with being second. Once we get to the championship game, it is on a neutral floor.’
