The JSerra boys’ basketball team is blowing out Colony at halftime, 38-23, in the fourth game of the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei High.

Demetrius Walker, the 6-4 junior guard who transferred from Fontana in the off-season, has 15 points to help the Lions to their 15-point lead. Walker is still a little gun-shy from the perimeter, but has shown great leaping ability on two dunks.

The haltime entertainment is three kids playing a game of halfcourt basketball against three people dressed in cow costumes, who are promoting their chicken stand outside. Not sure why they don’t use chickens for their promotion, but I’m getting hungry and there are 5 1/2 games to go.

Arena is still only about 30% full, but I expect a lot more folks to show up for the evening session and the big boys: Dominguez, Santa Margarita, Westchester, Fairfax and Mater Dei.
