Suddenly, one Fighting Frog is hotter than Houston in August -- Krystopher Faber, the double-double destroyer for Ribet Academy boys’ basketball.

College coaches are wanting -- and wooing -- Faber, and flocking to him in swarms, everywhere from Notre Dame to Northern Illinois, UNLV to Columbia.

At one game this week, Ribet Academy Coach William Middlebrooks estimated 15 coaches from different colleges scouted Faber, including USC’s Tim Floyd and Minnesota’s Tubby Smith.

‘He’s gone from nobody to somebody in one year,’ Middlebrooks said. ‘Last year, he was truly under the radar.’

It must have been a small radar. Faber stands 6-feet-11 and weighs 260 pounds, and he’s emerged as one of the best centers in the Southland, averaging 16.6 points and 17.4 rebounds. In 20 of 21 games this season, he has recorded a double-double.

In Faber, Middlebrooks already sees pro possibilities. ‘He hasn’t begun to reach his potential,’ Middlebrooks said. ‘He has a high basketball IQ because when you show him something, he absorbs quickly.’

So now you know why Faber is hotter than Houston in August, and maybe he’s even more desirable than a pair of mittens in Minsk.

Um, I should go now.
