Dorsey can thank neighborhood rival Crenshaw for giving the Dons a look at the Coliseum League boys’ basketball championship.

Crenshaw’s upset win over league leading Fremont last week means Dorsey (16-6, 8-2) can tie for the title if the Dons defeat Locke at home Wednesday and Fremont on the road Friday.

Coach Kevin Gibson said Dorsey will not look past Locke, not after pulling out a 56-54 victory at Locke on Jan. 22. But ‘the kids definitely know what’s at stake,’ he said.

And should the Dons get past Locke, there are several things Gibson wants to change about the next meeting with Fremont after losing, 82-76, in the first meeting on Jan. 16.

‘We missed free throws, layups and had way too many turnovers -- close to 30 as I recall,’ Gibson said. ‘But we also had a lead late in the game and lost it. I think I also made a couple of strategic errors against them that I won’t do this time.’

One thing Gibson can’t control: Fremont has all week to prepare for its game with Dorsey.
