The Portland State football program put itself on the map when it hired former NFL head coach Jerry Glanville last year.

As Glanville and the Vikings try to build on their 3-8 record in 2007, they’ve landed a couple Norco players to help get them started.

Josh Foley, who started at quarterback for the Cougars the last three years, and running back Joshua Nakamoto, who rushed for 2,400 yards as a junior but missed most of last season because of an ankle injury, signed letters of intent to play for Portland State, a Division I-AA program.

Both players were probably good enough to play at the Division I level. In fact, Foley originally committed to San Diego State last fall, but the Aztecs later rescinded the offer. As a result, according to this report, San Diego State recruiters are no longer welcome on Norco’s campus.

That’s a painful bridge to burn for the Aztecs.

As for Foley, he’s expected to move to defensive back, where he’ll benefit from Glanville’s defensive mind.
