The weird saga of Kevin Hart.

Hart won’t be playing football at California, despite the fact that the Fernley (Nev.) offensive lineman committed to the Golden Bears at a press conference last Friday. Hart said he chose Cal over Oregon and Oklahoma State among others.

Over the weekend, though, it emerged that none of the schools had recruited Hart, much less offered him a scholarship.

The truth of the situation has been slow in coming out, primarily because the NCAA schools involved are forbidden from commenting on the status of an unsigned (potential) student-athlete. Hart apparently fabricated a recruiting trip to Oklahoma State and participation on a football camp at Oregon.

He also claimed to have spoken with Cal coach Jeff Tedford, though local sources have indicated he may have spoken with an impostor.

However, it has also come to light that someone calling himself Kevin Riley falsely represented himself as a recruiter of some sort, and the Lyon County (Nev.) Sheriff’s Department investigation of the situation is ongoing.
