I’m not sure how this one slipped by us. Maybe there was so much scoring that the game went late into the night, or there was simply too much going on with various weekend extravaganzas. But I know one thing, if there’s video floating around, I’d like to see it.

Perris defeated The Bishop’s School, 101-92 in double-overtime on Saturday.

That’s right, the two girls’ basketball teams combined for 193 points, which makes it the second-highest scoring game in California girls’ history, according to the Cal-Hi Sports record book.

Bishop’s led at halftime, 42-29, but Perris, No. 11 in The Times’ rankings, outscored its opponent in the fourth quarter, 26-14, to pull even at the end of regulations, 74-74. It was 86-86 at the end of the first overtime.

Kiyana Stamps led Perris with 30 points, Destini Mason had 27, Aishah Sutherland 18 and Leah Washington 13. Rounding out the Panthers’ scoring were Natasha Hadley with eight points, and Tyesha Woods with five.

Bishop’s, No. 5 in the San Diego Section rankings, was led by Gizelle Studevant with 28 points and Michelle Brunker with 27.

The record of 194 points was set in 1982 during the Cheryl Miller era at Riverside Poly in a 179-15 defeat of Riverside Norte Vista.

It may always be ranked underneath that score in the record book, but for my money, Perris-Bishop’s is the new No. 1. That’s the way scoring records are meant to be set.
